QuickTime Help

You clicked on a help link close to a chunk of "QuickTime" content. I'll try to answer your question here, or aim you in the right direction.

What is QuickTime? QuickTime is both an operating system add-on and a browser plug-in for handling multimedia content. It is available for Mac O.S. and Windows ( Windows 98 and newer).

Usually, QuickTime is very easy to operate. Most problems occur when users don't have it installed.

Here are tips for problems seen on TA Web:

Problem: Solution
Something is appearing, but it is a) very blurry, and/or b) a black gridwork. OK, this just means that Quicktime is in the process of downloading a panora, and is showing you as much as it can in the meantime.

If no more of the panorama gets sharper, or no more of the gridwork gets filled in with photographic data, the internet connection may have hiccuped. Try refreshing the page.

No "panorama" appears - I just see a box with an icon that looks like this:

Either
  1. You don't have QuickTime (or you have an extremely old version) installed.
  2. QuickTime has been downloaded, but not installed properly (rare).

If you know you haven't installed QuickTime, or not in the last couple of years, it's time to get the latest version. (It is used by many web pages.) Go here to start getting the latest version.

(When viewing QuickTime VR Panoramas)

Quicktime content appears, but is isn't a smooth "panorama". It looks more like a "regular" quicktime movie, but with everything turned sideways.

Either
  1. You don't have QuickTime installed, at least not properly.
  2. You are running Windows, and QuickTime isn't (properly) installed.

Once again, get the latest version of QuickTime. Go here to start getting the latest version.

(Windows98 and later claim they can play back QuickTime content by itself, without Apple's QuickTime installed. However, they mis-handle many kinds of QuickTime data.)

I have a problem, but I don't see it listed here! Maybe Apple's documentation can help.

If everything appears to be working, but you need to learn how to use QuickTime, try Apple's QuickTime Player help page.

If things are not working at all, or very oddly, try Apple's QuickTime support page.

If you'd like to learn about QuickTime and see more content, try Apple's QuickTime page.
