Kilfenora is a small village on the southern edge of the Burren. It is home to the 12th century "Church of Saint Fachnan." While the church building is in ruins, its courtyards contain four medieval high crosses, carved with figures and ornaments.

Celtic High crosses often depict scenes from the scriptures, and were used as a means of instruction to the illiterate. Such crosses were carved by monks as early as the 7th century.

More information on the Church and its crosses is available at Kilfenora's Burren Visitor Center.
